    Saturday Thoughts: Be Thankful

My thought for today is that we need to learn to be thankful. I know I personally struggle with focusing on my problems instead of focusing on my blessings. Our God is a great, generous, and loving God! Every good thing we receive is from Him. 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (James 1:17) When I start thinking about how I want a nicer home or healthier food or new clothes (my clothes are from about 10 years ago) and I say these things to my husband, Justin, he is quick to remind me of…

    It’s All About the Attitude

Today I’m continuing my series on sin. If you want to check out other posts in the series you can head over to the beginning of the series where I have links to every subject I’ve written about on sin, though many of them are in the same post (usually 3-5 subjects per post) based on their similarities. Before I begin, let me remind you that I’m addressing Christians, people who claim they are followers of Jesus Christ. None of these posts are for non-Christians because they don’t have the same morals and beliefs as we do. We are to follow God’s Word, therefore I don’t hold non-believers to the same…

    Saturday Thoughts: Criticism

This week I’ve been thinking a lot about criticism and advice. New friends I’ve made and certain family members have told me how they are being criticised for things, or are giving advice to others on how to live. I give advice all the time on my blog and I’ve been criticized here and in the past, all throughout my childhood, teen years, and young adult life. Now, before I go on, let me just say that not all advice or criticism is bad. If it were, I’d be out of a job (lol) and so would every other blogger and nonfiction writer in the world. But there are things…

    Friday Fun Day: Book List

On Friday’s I like to write stuff that’s just fun and family-friendly. Keep in mind that family-friendly doesn’t mean it’s for kids. But it’s clean and stuff that I like to recommend. Now, I already have a Christian book list if you’re interested in that. I will periodically update it and add new books as I read them. But this list is for fiction books if you are craving something to read on a Friday night! So, here are some great books that I really enjoyed and that you might like as well!\ Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen While the writing in this book may be a little hard…

    Obedience

This entire move to Tennessee has taught me a lot about obedience, but this past week the Lord has really been emphasizing the point and testing me to see if I will truly be obedient or give in to my feelings and flesh. When we first moved here, the Lord told me to find a church and join a small group. That was back in September. The first two months we did try different churches, but none of them seemed to fit. By December we basically gave up and stopped going to church until March. Then Justin found a church about 15 minutes away, we went and ended up really…

    Hearing from God

I’m going to take a break from my series on sin because God has been speaking to my heart and gave me some things He wants me to talk about on my blog for the week. Today’s topic: Hearing from God. In my quiet time this week I heard the Lord say to my heart that He wants to speak to all His children, but that many of us just aren’t listening. Maybe we don’t take the time to really sit down and have a daily quiet time with Him, or when we do have a quiet time we’re focused on speaking to Him ourselves (prayer) but we don’t just…

    Saturday Thoughts: Hearing From God

Every Saturday I’m going to post thoughts that occur to me that aren’t in a series or that don’t require more than one post. These aren’t just random thoughts or opinions, but rather things I’m learning from the Lord or things that are very important to me. Today’s thought: How do I know God’s voice? When Justin and I chose Johnson City, TN it wasn’t a random choice, nor did God’s voice boom out of the skies and tell us to move there. One thing you should know about us is that we research and plan everything. I knew I wanted to live in the Appalachian mountains which narrowed down…

    Friday Fun Day: Netflix List

So, every Friday I want to post some fun stuff whether it’s activities, books, movies, TV shows or whatever that are clean and family-friendly. Today I’m going to post some TV shows that I recommend from Netflix. Now, not all of these are kid-friendly, but none of them are rated “M” for mature or anything like that. Sherlock (BBC) If you love the stories of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, you’ll definitely enjoy this series from BBC about a modern-day Sherlock Holmes. It is the original character of Sherlock but instead of being set in the traditional Victorian era, it is based in the 21st century. It is…

    A Confession

I really debated writing this post. In fact, God placed it on my heart a while ago to write this post but I kept putting it off, saying that if I told the truth about what I had done, God could never use me because people would just judge me and never hear what I had to say. But the Lord continually reminded me of all the people He has used from Bible times until now who have made wrong choices and done terrible things, but God forgave them and used them anyway, like Paul persecuting the Christians as Saul until his conversion on the road to Damascus, or Peter…

Blown and Tossed by the Wind

I’ve been seeking the Lord a lot more lately because of our financial circumstances and trying to figure out what He wants from us. And He keeps telling me over and over to trust in Him. And today, in my morning quiet time, He led me to these three verses from James. 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do. (James 1:6-8) The Lord revealed to me that I keep asking Him for…
