Friday Fun Day: Redbox Movies

Redbox is basically today’s Blockbuster. You can either go to the box and pick out your movie or download it online (though it’s more expensive) and it has all the latest releases! So, if you want something fun to do this Friday night, why not check out these family-friendly movies?

Remember: Family-friendly doesn’t mean the movies are for children, rather they aren’t full of as much swearing or sex as I would consider “adult” movies to be. They are rated PG-13 or lower.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

This is the sequel to the original Jumanji movie with an all-new cast of characters. I haven’t seen it yet, though I do plan on getting it soon, it’s supposed to be very funny and a bit of an action-adventure! It was given a 76% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with 88% of audiences saying that they liked it!

I give this movie a 95% because I thought it was hilarious! Of course, it helps that my husband and I are gamers so the idea of being placed inside one of our video games is pretty awesome!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Another movie I haven’t seen yet, but will soon, is the latest installment of the Star Wars franchise. It continues the story of new Jedi, Rey, and the newest baddie Kylo Ren. It received a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes but only 47% of audiences said that they actually enjoyed it. Hmm. How very conflicting! But hey, if you like the Star Wars series I’m sure you’d love to check this out and see for yourself if you’re going to like it!

I give this movie a 75%. I like the Star Wars series but to me, this movie was too similar to the original film, Star Wars: A New Hope. Although I like Rey and Kylo Ren and the acting was great, it just felt a little too much like all the other movies. There was nothing really new. However, it was still entertaining.

Justice League

This movie I actually have seen and really enjoyed it! If you like the DC Comics or Marvel movies, I think you’ll like this. It finally unites all the big names in the DC Comic world and gives them a larger goal. Great acting, good storyline with some humor and plenty of action! Although Rotten Tomatoes only gave it 40%, 75% of audiences enjoyed it and I was one of them!

I give it 80% myself because I love the characters and the script was fairly well-written, cinematography and acting were all great, but I think the plot could have been stronger.

Pitch Perfect 3

I haven’t seen this one yet but I did enjoy the first two so I definitely will check this one out. If you like musicals and acapella singing you’ll like this movie, but it is definitely a chick-flick so ladies, don’t make your man watch it unless he’s actually interested. Grab a girlfriend and have a girl’s night! Ratings don’t look good as Rotten Tomatoes gave it 31% and only 47% of audiences said they enjoyed it, but I like to judge a movie myself.

I just saw this movie and I would give it a 50% rating. I enjoyed the music but I can see why other people didn’t like it. The storyline was pretty far-fetched and they were really pushing it on believability. Also, a lot of the humor felt very, very forced and this was probably the least-funny Pitch Perfect movie. But, the ending was nice, and, as I said, I enjoyed the music.

Thor: Ragnarok

This movie was hilarious and, in my opinion, the best in the “Thor” series! If you love the Marvel movies you’ll definitely like this one! Lots of comedy and action, and some hints as to what we can expect in the new Avengers movie this month! Rotten Tomatoes gave it an awesome 92% while 87% of audiences said that they enjoyed it. But you should decide for yourself!

I give it 100% because I loved everything about it and wouldn’t change a thing!

Murder On The Orient Express

With a huge cast filled with famous names, this movie based on an Agatha Christie novel looks very promising and I am looking forward to checking it out for myself! It is a murder mystery that needs to be solved before the train reaches its destination so should provide mystery and suspense! Rotten Tomatoes gives it 57% while only 55% of audiences enjoyed it, but again I tend to like deciding on movies myself. Many times I like things when others don’t.

Central Intelligence

This movie was extremely funny with many laugh-out-loud moments. I didn’t laugh as much as my husband did, but I definitely enjoyed it. It’s about a one-time bullied geek, Bob, who grew up to be a lethal CIA agent, coming home for his high school reunion and meeting up with the “big man on campus” who is now an accountant and getting into a lot of pulse-pounding adventures. Rotten Tomatoes gives it 70% and 61% of audiences enjoyed it.

I give it about 75% because it was funny but not very original, and I like the two actors.

Agatha Christie’s Crooked House

Another movie based on an Agatha Christie novel and this one has some big stars as well! I haven’t seen it but will definitely check it out (maybe have an Agatha Christie night) and I’ll let you know what I think. Rotten Tomatoes gives it 72% while only 58% of audiences said that they enjoyed it.

Victoria and Abdul

I haven’t seen this one yet but I love the main actress and the movie received several Academy Award nominations so I will definitely check it out. The story is about Queen Victoria developing an unlikely friendship with an Indian clerk and how that affected her inner circle and even her country. Rotten Tomatoes gives it 66% and audiences agree at 68%, but the people at the Academy Awards certainly liked it so I will decide for myself.

Our final movie is animated and definitely kid-friendly. I actually watched it on Netflix and it was very cute and inspirational. It is all about pursuing your dreams no matter what the odds and I think that’s an important message for everyone, but especially for children. I think it was a fun movie with good music and I definitely enjoyed it!

While Rotten Tomatoes gave it 37% and only 63% of audiences liked it, I would give it at least 85% because of its great message!
