Gift of Miraculous Powers

When Jesus and His disciples performed miracles, they were using miraculous powers. Now, certainly the gift of healing is part of the miraculous powers, but those with this particular gift can do other things as well. Jesus said that those who came after Him and believed in Him would be able to do even more than what He had done in His short ministry on earth:

  • Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in Me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask Me for anything in My name, and I will do it. (John 14:12-14)

What does that mean? That means that those with the gift of miraculous powers can not only heal people but cast out demons, curse or bless others, control the storms, etc. Anything Jesus did, the people with this gift can do as well.

So, why don’t we see this happening more often? As I said in my post on the gift of healing, many Christians today have a serious lack of faith. And we can do nothing without faith. You may have this gift, but if you don’t truly believe you have it or that you can do what Jesus said, then you won’t be able to do it.

  • And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. (Heb. 11:6)

Even more miracles were performed in the Old Testament because God’s Spirit was on the prophets. Moses parted the Red Sea, drew water from rocks, claimed victory over their enemies when his staff was raised. Prayers caused the sun to stand still, for drought and rainfall, for fire to come from heaven to destroy the false prophets. And there are dozens, if not hundreds of other examples I could use. I believe all of this is still possible today if you’ve been given the gift of miraculous powers and if you have the faith. Why else would Paul list it? And as I said in my post on healing, there is no scriptural evidence that the spiritual gifts would cease to exist after the “time of the bible” because God doesn’t change and His Word never ends. Besides, technically the end of the Bible is Revelations and the things spoken of in Revelations have not yet happened.

So, while I can’t say what all the miraculous powers are (I don’t have that spiritual gift) I know that it exists and that there are believers today who have that gift and either are using it or want to use it but stop themselves from lack of faith or because of fear.

If you have the gift of miraculous powers, or you know someone who does, I’d love to hear more about it! Please comment below or send me an email through my contact form!
