God’s Words are True

All Your words are true; all Your righteous laws are eternal. (Psalm 119:160)

It’s hard to know what’s true in the world today, isn’t it? With photoshop, filters on photos, film editing, and technology like that it’s easy to be deceived. News stations (on television or online) talk about their own version of the news based on their political slant and you can never be fully certain of who is telling the truth – if anyone is at all. When we’re around other people we wear masks: the mask of being the perfect spouse, the perfect parent, the boss, the coworker, the employee. Whatever it is, it isn’t always the real you, right? I don’t show my funny weird side to anyone except those closest to me. The people I volunteer around just see a mature, calm, friendly woman -but they don’t know that I am a geek who loves to watch superhero TV shows and movies, or that when I’m really happy I act like a child (in a good way) and tease my husband, or that when I’m really angry I get kind of crazy (in a bad way). We are careful of what we show one another. And all these things make it difficult to recognize the truth in the world around us.

That’s why I love God’s Word and listening for God’s voice in my own mind and heart. God’s Word is the truth (John 17:17) and it never changes (Num. 23:19; Heb. 13:8; James 1:17). God doesn’t lie (Num. 23:19; 1 Sam. 15:29; Heb. 6:18) so when He makes a promise we know He will do it.

Lately, I’ve been looking at some of the promises He made through Jesus because the enemy has been coming against me with doubt and fear, so to counter it I keep reminding myself of God’s promises and that He will always keep them.

  • Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. (Matt. 7:7-8)
  • And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son…You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in My name the Father will give you…In that day you will no longer ask Me anything. Very truly I tell you, My Father will give you whatever you ask in My name. (John 14:13; 15:16; 16:23)

Jesus makes it very clear that when we ask, seek, and knock we will receive a response. God won’t ignore us which is why it’s so important to be still and go somewhere quiet so you can listen for His voice and to Bible study every day. He also tells us three times just in the book of John that whatever we ask in His name, His Father will do for us. There aren’t actually any “ifs” or “maybes” involved here. Jesus doesn’t say, “If you ask for My will, it will be done,” or “If you ask with right motives it will be done.” He said whatever we ask in His name will be done.

Now, God is not a genie and in James we are told that if we aren’t receiving something it may be because we asked with wrong motives (James 4:3). But I also don’t believe that anyone who is truly born again and seeking God’s will for their lives will ask for anything that God doesn’t want to give them. As I said in my last post we should always look at our own motives before we ask God anything. But if we’re sure that our motives are clear and right, ask God and then believe that He will give you what you asked because Jesus promised it! And God never lies. Once He has made a promise, He will keep His word. It will just happen in His way and His timing and that’s why God tells us to have faith. If we knew when/where/how something would happen, we wouldn’t need faith. That’s why He doesn’t give us details but tells us to trust Him.

I hope this encourages you, my dear reader, as you ask, seek, and knock this week! My prayers go with you and I pray that you will be surrounded by favor with blessings poured out over you and through you!
