The Battle is the Lord’s

We all fight battles every single day. Some are small, like losing your keys, forgetting your wallet, or being in so much of a rush that you don’t get to drink your first cup of coffee. Some are big like illnesses, the death of a loved one, living in poverty or with severe financial lack. But regardless of the size of our battles, we are never fighting them alone.

No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. (Joshua 1:5)

God promised Joshua and promises us as well, that He will always be with us, that He will never leave or forsake us. Jesus says something similar:

And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (Matt. 28:20)

We are never alone. We know that because God has promised it and He always keeps His promises. But God is also very clear that He is the one who fights our battles for us. There are some battles that we need to fight alongside Him:

For the Lord your God is the One who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory. (Deut. 20:4)

But there are also some battles where He doesn’t want us to fight the battle at all because He is already fighting it for us and will give us the victory:

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still. (Exo. 14:14)

Whether God is fighting with us or for us, whether we are at His side or being still and waiting for the battle to end, we are never sitting back lazily and watching. Our greatest strength is prayer. We need to be taking action by constantly being in prayer, singing praise and worship to our Lord, and being in His Word so we can learn more about Him. We need to listen for His voice, do what He tells us to do even if it seems crazy or foolish to us at the time.

When I feel God is telling me to do something, even if it doesn’t make sense to me, and I ask Him about it He always reminds me of people from the Bible who obeyed Him. For Noah to build an ark when no one had even heard of rain seemed crazy. For Abraham to follow God blindly, not knowing where he was going, seemed ludicrous. That God had also promised Abraham and Sarah, who were both well past child-bearing years, a son of their own seemed even more insane. For David, a common shepherd boy with no connections, no money, no power of his own, to receive the anointing that he would one day be king over Israel seemed ridiculous. And that’s just a few of the stories! When God speaks it often sounds crazy to us because we don’t see the future and we can’t understand how He’s going to do it – but if we look at the lives of His people from the past, we can see that if we walk in faith and are obedient to His voice, it will come to pass just as He promised!

I’ve talked about how we can hear from God in a previous post, and I’ve also recently read a post from Crosswalk that dealt with the same subject. One thing that really stood out to me is that when God speaks in our hearts and minds, His voice is always one of authority. And I’m learning to recognize that voice. I’m learning that my voice changes based on my mood, but most of the time it tells me to give up or do what everyone else is doing. The enemy’s voice is always one of doubt and fear. But God’s voice is one of power, authority, and faith. He tells me things like, “This will happen” and gives me specifics. Or He’ll tell me, when I start to freak out about a situation, “Trust Me. I’ve got this.” He has a confidence that I’ve never had because He is in complete control. He has already won the battle because He isn’t bound by time like we are. He is outside of time and He has seen the outcome.

So, whatever battle you are facing today, remember that God has already given you the victory. Whether He is telling you to fight alongside Him or to be still and watch Him win it for you, you can be confident in the knowledge that God has got this, He has already won, and you are never alone!

I pray you guys have a blessed weekend! I would love to hear about your battles and how God has been working in your lives! Please post in the comments below or send me an email. I will never share your information with anyone, nor do I ever sell emails to a third party (or anyone actually). I only want to hear from you!

I love you guys!
